AQABA PORT
AQABA, JORDAN

Located at the northern tip of the Red Sea, the Port of Aqaba is Jordan’s only maritime gateway and a strategic hub for international trade and tourism in the Middle East. Its unique geographic position, bordering Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Egypt, makes it a natural entry point to the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula.

To support the approach maneuvers of large vessels, such as bulk carriers, container ships, barges, etc. the port has developed a dedicated zone for the operation of about twenty tug boats (workboats) ranging from 15 to 30 meters in length, with displacements reaching up to 250 metric tons.

These dimensions, loads, and operational requirements are far removed from the pleasure craft marinas that Structurmarine typically designs.

These vessels are moored using lines engineered to withstand forces well beyond their own weight, in order to absorb the impacts caused by docking, wind, currents, and dynamic motion. This demands absolute stability from the dock structures. To meet the challenge, Structurmarine developed a custom floating solution featuring massive central piles and a specially engineered understructure equipped with shear blocks designed to absorb the immense energy generated by such loads. Specially dimensioned bollards handle the mooring loads, ensuring safe and secure docking conditions.

This project required extensive research and development, drawing on the full technical expertise of our team to create a robust, sustainable solution tailored to the site’s conditions. The Port of Aqaba stands as a striking example of our ability to innovate in the face of complex maritime engineering challenges.
