Structurmarine delivered a high-performance floating dock system for Navy Pier Marina on Lake Michigan in Chicago. This iconic site is exposed to challenging environmental conditions, including strong winds, seasonal ice, and significant water level variations.
Initially, aluminum was not considered by the client. However, its lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and durable properties quickly demonstrated that it was the ideal material for this environment.
The project includes nearly 8,000 linear feet of docks engineered to accommodate large vessels. A custom anchoring system was developed to ensure stability against ice loads, waves, and wind. Aluminum pontoons provide long-term reliability and reduced maintenance, enhancing the marina’s overall performance.
Close collaboration with local partners enabled seamless integration into Chicago’s iconic waterfront while addressing the logistical and operational constraints of the site.
