Located near the iconic Panama Canal, the Ocean Reef Marina project stands as a testament to Panama City’s maritime excellence. This ambitious ten-year housing development involved constructing two artificial islands to accommodate a state-of-the-art marina. Structurmarine was entrusted with designing and manufacturing the landing dock for visitors interested in purchasing property on these islands.
Designing the landing dock and anchorage system presented significant challenges. The marina’s location on the riprap of the island’s breakwater and the daily 6-meter tide necessitated a 24-meter-long gangway. The site also faces daily wave amplitudes of 1 meter and occasional storm waves exceeding 2 meters. Despite these conditions, the installed system withstood the severe storm of fall 2016, which generated waves over 3 meters.
Built with advanced technology and design, the landing dock offers secure berthing for owners and visitors. The floating dock features a pre-stressed membrane system for shading and private use, engineered to endure wind loads up to 120 km/h due to the site’s exposure to the elements.
