BASSIN LOUISE
QUEBEC, CANADA
The Oasis at the Port of Quebec has transformed the Louise Basin into a one-of-a-kind urban swimming area in North America, offering a natural swimming experience in the heart of Old Quebec. From the outset, the Quebec Port Authority (APQ) aimed to create an exceptional and safe recreational space for the public. Structurmarine is proud to have contributed to this innovative project, successfully realized despite logistical challenges and a tight timeline.
Located in the St. Lawrence River, the Oasis features Olympic-sized swimming lanes, open swimming areas, and relaxation zones for visitors to fully enjoy the summer season. Structurmarine provided a custom-built infrastructure, including a low-freeboard dock with enhanced buoyancy to ensure maximum stability and safety. The installation was designed to meet technical challenges posed by currents and tides that vary by up to 12 feet, as well as the lock that encloses the basin.
Designed for year-round accessibility, the Oasis can also hosts an ice-fishing village in winter, allowing the community to enjoy this unique site in every season. Structurmarine successfully delivered a high-quality project, further solidifying its expertise in natural swimming and recreational infrastructure.
